Technical Features

Approximate road length – 29 – 31 km. The exact length will be known after deciding upon general options for all four road segments.
Road with two separated carriageways - for all of its length.
Two or three lanes in each direction. The number of lanes for each segment and section depends on the planned traffic intensity. Roads with two lane sections will be possible to broaden in future.
Only multilevel junctions and crossings are designed for construction. The project envisages construction of 9 – 12 multilevel junctions, including 2 three-level junctions with Eksporta iela and Gustava Zemgala gatve (the Eastern Bypass).
In the West, the Northern Corridor will be connected to the state main highway A10 (Rīga – Ventspils) at Priedaine, not far from Jūrmala entrance pass point and to the state main highway A5 (Rīga bypass /Salaspils – Babīte) near Babīte.
In the East, the Northern Corridor will be connected to the state main highway A2 (Rīga – Sigulda) at Berģi.
The Northern Corridor will cross the river Daugava approximately 3 km north from Vansu Bridge. Different options were considered in the course of developing the project – both bridges and tunnels.
The approximate total length of the overpasses and bridges on the main route and access roads will be about 18 – 21 km.
Speed limit will be set up after the completion of the route, however, considering that speed limit outside residential areas will be 90 km/h and in city it will be 70 km/h, it will be possible to cover the distance from Jūrmala entrance pass point up to Berģi in 23 – 25 minutes.

Designing of the Northern Corridor is organised in segments:

1^st Segment	- “Brivibas Dublieris” (the alternate of Brīvības street) – from the state highway A2 (Rīga – Sigulda) at Berģi up to Gustava Zemgala gatve. The approximate length of the segment is 9.1 km.
2^nd Segment	– from Gustava Zemgala gatve (including a crossing with it) up to Daugavgrīvas iela (including a crossing with it). The approximate length of the segment is about 6.5 – 6.8 km. This part of the Northern Corridor comprises the Daugava crossing, 2 three-level junctions and other essential engineering solutions.
3^rd and 4^th Segments	– from Daugavgrīvas iela up to the state highway A10 (Rīga – Ventspils) at Priedaine. The 3^rd Segment is located in the territory of Riga City and the 4^th Segment – in Babīte county and Jūrmala city. The total length of both segments is 13.8 – 15.4 km.
